Nash Jocic : The Ultimate Fitness Training

Fitness expert Nash Jocic, has been involved in the fitness industry and competitive sport for more than 20 years. He has advised thousands of recreational, intermediate, serious and professional athletes, through personal training, nutritional and training consultations.
Nash has launched Ultimate Shape Personal Training, a series of DVDS, downloads, and video clips which you can upload to your iPod, 3G phone or other video device. Simply take it to the gym and there is Nash talking you through your session! We caught up with him to find out more about this innovative product..
Precious: What’s your background? How did you get started in the fitness industry?
Nash Jocic: Impressed with the complexity of human anatomy and physiology at the age of 16, I started training with weights in order to get stronger and get in better shape. I soon realised though that all the running and playing of football, that by the way gave me immense pleasure and joy, would never give me the kind of body and physique that I wanted.
A proportioned and symmetrical body was always my ultimate goal and I always believed that one should attempt to achieve and optimise his/her maximum physical, intellectual and mental potential.
While being engaged in the studies of philosophy I had no other option but to look for a sport that would help me achieve physical excellence. It didn’t take long before I had the first proof that resistance training was what I was always looking for and the rest is history.
I started a gym business and competed professional, as well as starting personal training, strength coaching, nutrition consultancy, life coaching, publishing books and videos, designing and selling gym equipment, writing articles about nutrition and fitness training, editing fitness magazines etcetera.
What do you feel is your biggest fitness-related accomplishment?
Passing my knowledge and experience to the general public and being able to give that information in an accessible and effective format (DVDS, downloads, e-books, books etc) that will help millions of people globally to achieve a better standard of health and to look better. Already thousands of people have benefited and achieved amazing results using my advice and services in the last 20 years and each and every one of their successes are my greatest reward.
Can anyone at any level of fitness use Ultimate Shape products?

What are your immediate and long-term goals for Ultimate Shape?

The sooner we get them out, the sooner we can give people the right kind of information to help them achieve better health and levels of fitness. I definitely expect a good response regarding the unique content and formats of all our products. The next immediate goal will be to open Ultimate Shape Gyms, with the kind of cutting edge training equipment and service that haven’t been offered in gyms anywhere so far. At the same time I will be offering numerous talks, seminars and workshops that will help a wider audience understand better the benefits of using the most effective training systems combined with healthy eating.
Regarding long term goals, I would like to offer as many different products in as many different formats as possible, products that will help people globally to accept the healthier approach and to help them implement resistance training and healthy eating regimen in their everyday lifestyle. Only understood and implemented as a total lifestyle change will my advice will pay off.
If someone you knew asked you how to lose weight and get in shape quickly what would you tell them?
First of all, there is no such thing as losing weight and getting in shape quickly. What you can do quickly though, is to take my advice seriously and decide to make a lifestyle change that will last for good. That decision can be done quickly, as I have always experienced after my talks and seminars.
The duration of the actual process of getting in shape can vary from person to person and depends on many factors such as age, gender, body type, fitness level, etc. The biggest change at the beginning is the change to yourself, your new vision, dedication and determination to improve your shape and health. In reality, people start achieving very good visible results after first 4 to 6 weeks of proper exercise and with the right choice of food in their daily intake. Depending on their starting condition and expectation they will end up in ultimate shape in adequate time. For an average female, aged let’s say 30, and with around 25% of body fat, I would expect in ideal circumstances the whole process to take 3 to 5 months.
What do you feel differentiates your products from others in the same field?

Who trains you?
Well, the first and last trainer that I really had was my life long friend Dusko Popovski. In the most important period of my fitness career, the beginning, I learned everything from him. Those were times when I have made the biggest improvements, from 1981 to 1983. After that period I didn’t have an actual trainer, but I have kept learning from the greatest bodybuilders of the time. I travelled and competed around the world and always took every opportunity to learn more about training and nutrition from my competitors and the friends that I met during the course of my travels. In fact my learning process has never stopped. I have been very happy to learn from some of the top professional athletes like Dorian Yates, Patrick Nichols, Serge Nubret, Fikret Hodzic, Amory Francis, JD, Milos Sarcev and others.
What message would you give to Precious readers who may be nervous or sceptical about trying Ultimate Shape products and services?
I don’t see a single reason for anyone to be sceptical or nervous about approaching Ultimate Shape. The product is aimed at both sexes; do you feel that men find it easier to get into fitness routines than women?
The reality of the fitness world today is that men use gyms more than women. This is simply because of a long lasting prejudice that women do not benefit from resistance training and they should be more engaged in other form of exercise such as jogging, aerobics, etc. The truth actually lies somewhere else. Resistance training is the most effective type of training for women to help lose body fat and shape up in record time. And that is not the end of story; resistance training is the only way to strengthen connective tissues, increase the density of the bones, stabilize joints, protect the spine with stronger back muscles, prevent osteoporosis, improve hormonal balance etc.
My aim is to raise awareness in women about the importance of a healthy lifestyle and therefore motivate them to join gyms in much higher numbers. In my talks and seminars I always pay attention to this problem, and recive a great response from female audiences. And again, obtaining the right kind of information is the key and starting point for every positive change.

You have two young children, are they health conscious too?
My daughter Nicol is 9 years old and my son Milos is 7. They are both very health conscious too. My wife and I always taught them the importance of healthy food and why it make a difference in life. From a very early age they knew which food are high in protein and fibres, why vitamins very important, where you can get calcium from, etc. Neither my wife nor I stop them from having ice cream or a chocolate from time to time, but the most dominant food in their diet comes in the form of fresh vegetables, fruit, lean meats, fish, healthy oils and whole grains and they are always very proud to advise other friends in the fields of healthy eating and exercise.
They play lot of football, basketball, they love running and swimming and we try to be active with them most days of the week. Ultimate Shape will dedicate a lot of effort in order to educate children and young people about healthy eating and about the importance of physical exercise through talks and seminars in schools, colleges and universities.
